Statement - The Commonwealth supports Guyana’s territorial integrity and calls for the respect of the judicial process underway

The Commonwealth Ministerial Group on Guyana was convened in New York on 17 September 2023 by the Commonwealth Secretary-General, The Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC, in accordance with a mandate given by the Commonwealth Heads of Government to monitor “developments in respect of the existing controversy between Guyana and Venezuela.”

On 23 August 2023, Zimbabweans will vote to elect councillors, members of parliament, and a president. Ambassador Amina Chawahir Mohamed, former Cabinet Secretary for Education and Foreign Affairs of Kenya, will lead a team of Commonwealth election observers to Zimbabwe for the upcoming election.

Making work more inclusive: strengthening the employability of persons with disabilities

This week, the Human Rights Unit and the Whaikaha – Ministry for Disabled People (New Zealand), convened a side event on the margins of the Conference of State Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in New York City on 13 June. The side event examined practical ways of strengthening the employability of persons with disabilities to ensure that they can enjoy work on an equal basis.
